Instructor Training class

Anyone interested in becoming an instructor, must hold a current “Provider Level” certification from the AHA (meaning you hold a current CPR+First Aid and/or BLS Provider Certification). You’ll be asked to provide a copy of this certification during your instructor training.

Upon registering for the class, an instructor manual will be drop-shipped to the address you provided and a link to the AHA Instructor Essentials online course will be sent.

The instructor manual will be helpful in the completing the AHA Instructor Essentials course, which is completed on-line at home or work. The course contains information on planning and preparation for courses, teaching courses, conducting written exams (if applicable), skills practice and skills testing, and keeping your instructor status current. Upon successful completion a completion certificate is generated and should be printed out and brought to your instructor course. The Instructor Essentials online course takes between 2-4 hours to complete.

Class start time is 10 am sharp. Upon arrival on the day of the class, your instructor essential completion certificate and a copy of your provider certificate will be collected.

Training Center Orientation: We will explain your role and responsibilities as an instructor, our responsibility as your training center, the hierarchy of the AHA and all the administrative components involved in being an instructor. In addition, we will explain the process of ordering E-cards and the costs associated with that process.

An instructor training video will be played. A pizza lunch will be provided.

After lunch, we will cover information such as course organization, policies of the AHA, Lifesavers and CPR Delaware administration of a course, instructor re-certification requirements, advertising, equipment cleaning, changes in CPR and why they occur, skills testing, a written test and more.

This course will take approximately 5 hours with a break for lunch.

After the course:

It is highly encouraged that anyone going through instructor training, join us for one of our classes as an assistant instructor. This will give you an opportunity to ease into the role of an instructor. Afterwards, we can provide personalized coaching discussing various facets of the class, teaching techniques and practice teaching different components of the class.

Instructor Monitoring. This requires that you make arrangements to teach a segment of one of our scheduled classes. We monitor the new instructor teach a portion of a course. This can be done during one of our scheduled classes that you would find on our website calendar. This evaluation must be done within 6 months after completion of part 2.

Once these requirements have been met the instructor will be able to teach on their own. However, as an instructor, you may assist with as many additional classes as you want. CPR Professionals’ role as the instructors Training Center is continuous support. We simply wish to give instructors every resource possible so they feel comfortable and confident teaching this material.

The cost for this training includes the American Heart Association Instructor Manual and the online AHA Instructor Essentials course.

Mannequins, classroom videos, student manuals, certification cards and other teaching supplies are not included in the cost of Instructor training.
